Description
The Case of Andrew D. follows on ideas introduced in The USB Stick Found in the Grass - it is not a traditional game, more like kind of a forensic puzzle, requiring some computer skills and understanding of basic OSINT ideas. Player becomes a member of a private eye team, solving cases for their clients. Part of the work requires working with real files and squeezing as much information from them as possible. There is no 'good' or 'wrong' way of doing it - anything that works counts as a valid approach. For example if the player is asked to find the password and open zip file they can do it either by searching other files and information about the case for clues, or attempt to use brute force (good luck with that though, passwords are selected to not be easy to crack quickly). Pushing the investigation forward will ask for deduction skills and will sometimes require searching the web for information.
History
Our previous project, The USB Stick Found in the Grass, was praised for a clever concept, but heavily criticized for a lack of interaction and elevated privileges required to mount the virtual disk. We still believe it was a perfect idea for a niche product, but to extend the target we decided to make two important changes: player can now 'connect' to the company server and download files from there (connection is just simulated, so it is possible to play offline) and sending information found in the files back to the company server triggers new investigation related events.
Release & the engine
Release of the game is planned for 2025. Demo version is already out on Steam, feel free to download it and play. We plan to also spearately release the engine, which will allow people to create their own scenarios, kept in a separate, external xml files.
